Shots fired before car crashes into bus stop

News

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A small SUV crashed through a tree and into a bus shelter early Monday morning — shortly after police received reports of a shooting in the same area.

Portland police officers responded to the area of Northeast 15th Avenue and Prescott Street around 2 a.m. on a “shots fired” call and found the crashed Kia Soul.

No one was inside the car, but officers found evidence of gunfire in the area. Officers added that they don’t believe anyone suffered injuries due to the shooting.

Several streets were blocked off as officers investigated, but have since reopened.

According to TriMet, a contractor cleaned the sidewalk while PBOT cleared the street. Riders should wait near the stop unless there’s a sign posted redirecting to another stop.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has surveillance footage is asked to contact Detective Ryan Foot at 503.823.0781 or at ryan.foote@portlandoregon.gov.
