PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A skier died after falling into a tree well on Mt. Bachelor in Central Oregon.

Mt. Bachelor announced the death on its Facebook page, saying “an adult male skier was discovered unresponsive in a tree well” Friday afternoon.

A tree well is a void around a tree trunk covered in deep snow. People can get stuck in them and suffocate.

Ski Patrol members tried CPR on the man but he was unresponsive.

The man’s identity was not immediately released.

The death came less than a week after another man died by falling into a tree well at Timberline Resort
