Two people had to jump from a 3rd-story window

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A fire that forced two people to jump from a 3rd-story window in Northeast Portland was sparked by illegal fireworks.

Portland Fire & Rescue said the fire started shortly before 4 a.m. at 3918 NE Garfield Ave. It was quickly upgraded to a 2nd-alarm before needing even more crews and resources.

Ten people were inside and two people had to jump from the window.

Officials said the man was released from the hospital but the woman is still there. She is stable and doing better.

The woman’s mother told KOIN 6 News she suffered cracked vertebrae, a collapsed lung and broken hip in addition to substantial burns.
