Taxi hits, kills delivery driver on NE Columbia Blvd

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A delivery truck driver was hit and killed by a taxi early Thursday morning in Northeast Portland.

Portland police said the incident happened right before 1 a.m. in the 6400 block of Northeast Columbia Boulevard. 

The taxi driver had picked up a fare at the airport and was traveling westbound when the crash happened. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The pedestrian, later identified as 77-year-old Larry D. Dill, Sr. — died at the scene. According to police, Dill was hit after he pulled over his delivery truck out into the road and returned to close a gate.

Impairment and speed aren’t considered factors. No arrests or citations have been made.

Thursday’s incident is the 10th fatal collision involving a pedestrian in two weeks.
