Extra bridge lifts planned as Fleet Week ships arrive

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and Royal Canadian ships will start arriving for Rose Festival Fleet Week on Wednesday to dock along the waterfront through the weekend.

That means additional bridge lifts will be happening as ships pull into downtown Portland starting at 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Steel Bridge and Burnside Bridge will lift at 3, 3:30 and 4 p.m. and the Broadway Bridge will lift at 3 and 3:30 p.m. to allow five ships to pass through. 

On Thursday, the Broadway and Steel bridges will lift at 3, 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. for three more ships.

All the ships leave on Monday morning with Broadway, Steel and Burnside bridge lifts at 7:30, 8, 9 and 9:30 a.m.

The visiting ships are: 

USS Michael Murphy, USS Scout, USCGC Steadfast, USCGC Bluebell, USCGC Orcas, HMCS Regina and HMCS Nanaimo. 

Ship tours will be available June 8-10 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
