PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Volunteers at Union Gospel Mission served more than 600 meals to those in need on Thanksgiving Day.

The event took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Union Gospel Mission — located at 15 NW 3rd Ave. Unlike previous years, the event was held inside the building as opposed to a large outdoor tent.

The menu included 350 pounds each of mashed potatoes, stuffing, fresh candied yams, 75 gallons of turkey gravy, 72 pounds of cranberry sauce, 240 pumpkin pies with whipped cream,  1,200 dinner rolls with butter, 100 gallons of coffee — and of course, plenty of turkey.

By the end of the event, volunteers had served a total of 629 meals.

Union Gospel Mission has been serving Portland since 1927 by providing meals and care to the homeless.
