NORTH POWDER, Ore. (KOIN) — A Vancouver man was struck and killed by a driver while chaining up Sunday morning along I-84, authorities said.
Igor Nikolaychuk, 50, was in the process of chaining up near the left rear axle of his semi-tractor/trailer when another car began to slide sideways onto the highway, Oregon State Police said.
The car’s front side bumper reportedly hit Nikolaychuk and pushed him under the trailer.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other car, 21-year-old Mckenna Hamilton from Idaho, was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Her side airbag deployed during the incident, police said.
Visibility was reduced to 1/4 mile due to foggy conditions and the roads were icy when the crash occurred.
All but one lane of I-84 at milepost 281 closed Sunday.
