PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was arrested in Salem Saturday night after police said he ran from officers and stole their patrol car.

Salem police said Jessie Guajardo, 30, was wanted for multiple felonies. He was seen walking near SE Commercial Street and SE Hoyt Street but he took off and police lost him.

Then police said he circled back to the area and stole the police car. Guajardo allegedly ditched it near SE 23rd Street and SE Simpson Street.

Police eventually determined Guajardo was inside a house on SE Simpson Street and refused to come out. Because of his “extensive criminal history” the SWAT team was called and shortly after they arrived, Guajardo surrendered.

He was taken to jail and booked for the felony warrants and new charges from the incident Saturday including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, eluding, theft and trespassing.
