PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A group of prepared young women helped a hiker who fell on the Wind Mountain Trail on Thursday.

Skamania County EMS said the woman fell and hurt her ankle about 1 mile up the trail.

Two girls who were hiking with a group affiliated with the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington were able to help the woman before EMS arrived.

The Girl Scouts provided first aid and then helped EMS carry equipment back up the trail.

"These prepared women wre able to provide care, comfort and support to a person in need and assisted crews in carrying the patient through rough terrain down to the trailhead," a press release from Skamania County EMS said.

The injured woman was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
