Sunken yacht spills diesel into Olympia bay

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Diesel spilled into the West Bay Marina near Olympia, Washington on Friday after a 92-foot yacht sank.

The yacht, named King’s Way, was holding a reported 1,200 gallons of fuel, said the Coast Guard. Authorities first got the emergency call around 7:30 a.m. this morning and had to dispatch multiple teams out to the bay, including a contracted diving and salvage team.

State officials from the Department of Ecology, as well as from the Department of Fish and Wildlife were on site for the clean up. Personnel from those departments are working with an Incident Management Division to “mitigate pollution impact.”
