PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — West Linn Police will be using federally funded overtime to educate the public on safety belts and child seat laws from August 19 to September 1.

In 2017, 35% of children killed in passenger vehicles weren’t buckled in their car seats or booster seats correctly. A total of 371 children could have survived if they were properly buckled up 100% of the time, according to West Linn PD.

The West Linn PD will have extra patrol cars out during this time, specifically looking for any cars whose drivers or passengers aren’t properly using their seatbelts.
