PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The so-called “Milepost 97 Fire” was burning about a mile southeast of Canyonville by Thursday night.
A Level 3 “GO!” evacuation was issued for residents in the 100 to 300 block of Ritchie Road near the southern end of the fire, according to the Douglas Forest Protective Association. No evacuations had been issued for the Canyonville, Riddle and Azalea areas at the time of this posting.
Fire officials said the blaze had burned about 750 acres by about 9:30 p.m. and was expected to continue burning in steep, rocky terrain overnight.
Wind gusts, hot temperatures and low humidity caused the fire to spread quickly Thursday afternoon.
ODOT said the southbound I-5 off-ramp at the Canyon Creek exit was closed overnight due to the fire.
