Level 2 "Get Set" evacuations issued for residents west of I-5 between mileposts 88 and 83

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Milepost 97 Fire burning near I-5 in southern Oregon consumed 11,000 acres by Sunday morning — up from 6,000 acres Friday night.

Level 2 “Get Set” evacuations are in place for homes on the west side of I-5 between mileposts 88 and 83 in an area south of Canyonville.

Officials said southbound I-5 is reduced to one lane for the safety of fire crews.

Close to 900 firefighters are currently fighting the blaze, along with 15 helicopters and several other aerial resources.

Meanwhile, a cargo trailer used to transport firefighting equipment for the Milepost 97 Fire was stolen overnight Friday, according to the Douglas Forest Protective Association.
