PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Watch out sea lions. A fake orca is coming to the waters off of Astoria in the hope it will scare the sea lions away.

Port of Astoria Director of Business Development Mike Weston told KOIN 6 News the “Fake Willy” – named for the real orca who later became a movie star – should arrive in the next week or two.

“They are currently working on upping his vocals so he will be louder and (they’re also) putting on a remote control engine,” Weston says.

Without the remote engine, the 16-foot fiberglass whale would have to be towed behind a boat.

Port officials are taking action because the sea lions are taking up space on the docks that could be rented to boaters.
