Woman, 47, found dead in McMinnville house fire

McMINNVILLE, Ore. (KOIN) — A 47-year-old woman was found dead in a home after officials responded Wednesday afternoon to a vehicle and house fire in McMinnville.

At 12:45 p.m., McMinnville Fire and Police arrived at a reported vehicle fire at 2433 NE Baker St to find that the residence was also engulfed in flames.

Fire officials found Kimberly Ann Nelson, 47, dead when they entered the home.

Court documents show her husband, James Allan Nelson, filed for divorce Tuesday after separating on August 7. Police confirmed to KOIN 6 News they interviewed Mr. Nelson.

The cause of death and manner of death are still being investigated.

“At this point we’re not labeling it in any form other than a death,” said McMinnville Police Captain Tim Symons.

Symons confirmed officers and firefighters were dispatched for a call saying a red Corvette in front of the house was in flames. When they arrived on scene they saw both the corvette and house were on fire.

Officials said there is no danger to the public. What a neighbor said

Neighbors told KOIN 6 News they’ve been worried about the woman’s mental health and even called police to check on her.

They’ve been concerned about all the stuff in the yard and said she had become seemingly unstable over the last few months.

Garrett Schaad, a neighbor who knew the couple, said James Nelson “works a lot. He actually moved out a couple months ago before this because he knew that she just wasn’t mentally right and people have been trying to get her help. But James is just always at work. I haven’t seen him around. I actually hadn’t seen him since early August.”

He added the burned Corvette was James’ car.

Schaad said he and James Nelson walked through the home last night and found 2 dead dogs and blood in the couple’s bedroom.

McMinnville police told KOIN 6 News the investigation is ongoing.
