PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — For years, millions of Americans have counted on and looked forward to tax refunds. But following changes to the tax code and tables, “a lot of middle class Oregonians are just stunned” at what they’re seeing.
That’s what Sen. Ron Wyden said when he stopped by the KOIN 6 News studio on Friday.
When the Trump Administration revised the tax tables, millions of Americans didn’t necessarily make a withholding adjustment. Now, when they’re expecting a tax refund, they actually owe money.
“I don’t think we ought to be playing politics with people’s withholding,” Wyden said. He’s introduced a measure to “waive all the penalties for all Oregonians who made honest, simple mistakes” with their withholding.
