YAMHILL CO., Ore. (KOIN) — A Sheridan barn caught fire Sunday evening, and the flames spread to a nearby field, officials said.

Around 7 p.m., Sheridan Fire Dept. was called to the scene of a barn fire near the intersection of Enterprise Road and Beck Road. Crews from West Valley Fire and McMinnville Fire Department also responded to help put out the blaze.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw a thick black column of smoke and flames coming from a fully-involved barn, Sheridan Fire Dept. said.

The flames that spread to a nearby field were quickly extinguished, with occasional spot fires throughout the evening. The field fire was limited to a quarter of an acre, officials said.

The barn fire was contained by Sunday night, but firefighters remained on the scene for a short period of time to put out hot spots.
