PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — It’s the first week of June and that means wildfire season has officially started here in the Northwest.

Meteorologist Kelley Bayern sits down with John Saltenberger, the Fire Weather Program Manager for the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center. The two of them talk about what the spring weather means for the fires, why human-caused fires tend to not grow as large as natural fires and the role climate change plays in conditions for mega-fires getting worse.
