PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A former youth pastor has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for child sex abuse in Washington County.

Ryan Christopher Mutchler pleaded guilty to one count of 2nd-degree online sexual corruption of a child on Thursday, according to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

Mutchler was a youth pastor at Mountain Park Church and a band teacher at Aloha High School.

In the summer of 2018, he met and befriended a 14-year-old child at a church camp. Officials said he started sending her sexual texts and also suggested meeting in person for sexual activities.

The girl’s parents noticed several red flags and, after talking to their daughter, they reported Mutchler to the police.

Mutchler sent sexually explicit messages to a detective who pretended to be the child in online conversations. He was arrested in September of 2018.

“While the contact this defendant had with this child is significant and will undoubtedly affect her for a very long time, this child’s parents’ attentiveness and swift action prevented further abuse to this child,” said Deputy District Attorney Allison Brown.
