PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A marijuana dispensary owner is offering a $10,000 reward to help catch a man who robbed his shop Friday night.
Portland police said the suspect went into Zion Cannabis Dispensary on SW 6th Avenue and demanded cash.
“He had his hand in a backpack, and he said he had a gun,” owner Joseph Dunne told KOIN 6 News.
It’s unclear whether he really did have a weapon or not, but the shop’s policy is to hand over the cash.
“We are not going to put our employees in danger,” Dunne said.
At one point, the thief even jumped onto the counter and grabbed a jar of marijuana from a shelf before getting away.
“You have to be a pretty desperate person to put yourself in that situation for a small amount of money,” Dunne said.
The suspect is still out there, but his efforts to conceal his identity didn’t go as planned. A well-placed camera outside the store caught a clear view of his face before he put a mask on for the robbery.
“It’s funny, he crouched by his bike to put on a mask right tin front of one our security cameras,” Dunne said. “So we have footage of him trying to hide his face inside, perhaps he didn’t realize there was a camera in front of his face outside.”
Dunne said other business owners saw the suspect scouting out the area before the robbery. The man is white, possibly in his 20s and he was wearing bright green gloves and a blue jacket.
“[The police] are doing everything that they can, but their resources are limited,” Dunne said. “So we are offering a $10,000 reward to anybody who has information that they bring forward and leads to an arrest in this matter and hopefully the community at large can help us out in this circumstance.”
