PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Former Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter returned to his home of Ohio and accepted the job as head coach of the Columbus Crew, MLSSoccer.com reports.
Porter left the Timbers after the 2017 season and has been off the pitch since. In 2015, he led the Timbers to the MLS Cup and overall had a record of 68-50-52.
He had earlier been linked to the opening with the Los Angeles Galaxy but instead opted to go to Columbus.
“I am honored to join Columbus Crew SC, a club with a rich history in Major League Soccer and a city with great appreciation for its beloved club dating back to 1996,” Porter told MLSSoccer.com.
Before joining Portland in 2013, Porter led the University of Akron Zips to a national title in 2010.
