Portland Timbers look back on 2018 season

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Timbers held a press conference Thursday to discuss the 2018 season.

The season ended in a championship match for the MLS Cup against Atlanta United. While the Timbers didn’t walk away the victors, their fans were far from disappointed.

The Timbers overcame a 5-game winless streak to kickoff the season and finished as the 5 seed in the Western Conference.

They qualified for the postseason and went on to win against Dallas, Seattle and Kansas City. These wins advanced the Timbers on to the title game in Atlanta that ended in a 2-0 loss.

Timbers head coach Gio Savarese said the first step next season will be to build upon the success of 2018.

“The first thing is now how we can get better, how we can just improve some things,” Savarese said. “But at the end, I think during this season we had some very good moments.”
