PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In the ongoing feud between the Seattle and Portland soccer teams, the Portland Timbers have reached out to show their love for the other Portland.
It appears the Timbers bought an ad Portland, Maine’s newspaper, the Portland Press Herald. The ad features a postcard that reads, “Dear Portland, ME, They tried to tear us apart. It only strengthened our bond. Portland forever. All our love, Portland, OR”
We have never, ever tweeted a picture of one of our advertisements. However. Our special thanks go out to @TimbersFC for placing this absolute beauty today. #OnePortland #RCTID pic.twitter.com/aXqm6ySI4s— Portland Press Herald (@PressHerald) June 30, 2018
The Portland Press Herald called the ad as “absolute beauty” on Twitter.
The newspaper also tweeted a photo of a group of Timbers fans in Maine.
The ad seems to be a response to the Seattle Sounders billboard in downtown Portland that says “Seattle loves Portland, Maine.” The campaign also has a website that declares Portland, Maine “The only Portland that matters.”
