PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Soccer fans rejoice: The Timbers are heading home!
Since the regular season started, the Timbers have played 12 straight games on the road due to construction at Providence Park. The multi-million dollar renovation has added new amenities to the park and 4,000 seats.
But on Saturday, fans will be able to enjoy the newly renovated stadium while cheering on their team. Timbers play LAFC.
Fans aren’t the only ones happy about the Timbers’ return. Businesses near Providence Park, while open year-round, have some of their busiest days on game days — with fans flocking to bars and restaurants before and after the games.
Saturday’s game is just the start for soccer fans. Out of the Timbers final 22 games, 17 of them will be played at Providence Park.
The Thorns have their home-opener on Sunday.
