Portland entered the NBA in the 1970-71 season

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — KOIN 6 News caught up with fans of the Portland Trail Blazers at the team’s 2019-2020 season opener on Wednesday at the Moda Center.

RipCity supporters were eager for the home-opener and some have made the event a family tradition.

“We went to multiple games last year,” said Tom Deggendorfer. “When I was Max’s age, 12, I listened to the Blazer games and followed them and now he is and it’s just a fun event to go to and listen to and be a part of.”

Some people at Wednesday’s game have been cheering on the Blazers since the beginning.

“Clyde Drexler and ‘Duck’ — we were pretty into those guys,” said Sharon Petitmermet. “But it’s 50 years later and 50 years’ worth of changes for people but being a grandma and a great-grandma, I’m still going with them.”

With a trip to the Western Conference finals fresh in their memory, the Blazers have high hopes for this season. So do the fans.

“I’m excited for the new guys; a little anxious, though, making sure they all gel well,” said Michelle Wilde.

“I think they’re going to do really well but with a lot of new guys it’s hard to tell,” said Judie Peterson.

Others are simply amped for the sheer sport of it all.

“I’m really excited, I hope the Blazers win and have a good season and I’m just excited,” said Max Deggendorfer outside Moda ahead of the game.
