(KOIN) — The Oregon State Beavers hadn’t beaten the Utah Utes since 2013. And Saturday’s game at Reser Stadium didn’t start out well. But the finish was just fine.

The Beavers used an explosive 3rd quarter to take command of the game on their way to a 42-34 victory, improving to 5-2 in the process.

But it was Utah that jumped out early with two 1st-quarter touchdowns. They added another 10 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-14 lead into the locker room at the half.

Oregon State stayed close enough to really let their 3rd-quarter count. After pulling close with a Nolan-to-Bradford 11 yard touchdown pass, the Beavers took the lead after blocking a Utah punt and returning it for a touchdown.

Utah regained the lead on the next drive, 31-28. But the Beavers came right back and put the ball in the endzone to take a 35-31 lead into the 4th quarter.

The Beavers extended their lead on an 8-yard touchdown run, but Utah closed the gap again with a 33-yard field goal. With 2:02 left, Oregon State held a 42-34 lead.
