PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Damian Lillard announced his 2020 plans on Wednesday, telling the world he’s ready to add an Olympic medal to his trophy cabinet.
Lillard discussed his decision in an interview with James McKern during a trip to Sydney, Australia. This comes days after Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry confirmed his commitment to Team USA.
“I plan on being a part of that. I plan on playing,” Lillard said.
Team USA is coming off some disappointment after placing 7th at the FIBA World Cup. People are beginning to speculate that the rest of the world has caught up to the USA’s level of play. Basketball legend Kobe Bryant put in his 2 cents, saying this isn’t unexpected.
“It’s not a matter of the rest of the world catching up to the U.S., it’s that the rest of the world has been caught up for quite some time,” Bryant said. “And it’s to the point now where us in the U.S. are going to win some, we’re going lose some. And that’s just how it goes.”
Regardless, redemption is in the air as the nation’s top players continue to come together to re-establish the dominant team America was once accustomed to seeing.
