The food cart's owner said the crime is part of a trend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A truck containing a food cart was stolen early Wednesday morning in Southeast Portland.

Larry Abell, the owner of the Local Grind food cart, caught the crime on his surveillance camera at Southeast 8th and Powell.

A white Chevy van can be seen pulling up next to Abell’s box truck at about 2:15 a.m.

The van and Abell’s truck drive away about 10 minutes later.

Abell told KOIN 6 News the theft is a huge blow to his business. While he has a second food cart, the loss of this one means no money for a few of his employees.

The theft, according to Abell, is also part of an unfortunate trend.

“I hate to think it’s an inside job. I mean, people are getting broken into left and right and I’m not the only food cart operator this happens to,” he said.

The license plate on the van the thieves were riding in is Oregon 170 KNC.

If you see the van or know anything about the theft, please contact the Portland Police Bureau at 503.823.3333.
