PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Fifteen volunteers from the Red Cross Cascades Region are setting off to assist in the huge response effort for Hurricane Dorian.
The volunteers are leaving from both Oregon and Washington to make their way to the impact area in Florida, which is bracing for a category 3 storm.
These Red Crossers will be preparing strategic shelter and warehouse locations, stocking food, cots, blankets and other relief supplies to help out those affected by the incoming hurricane.
As many as 50,000 people could be displayed by Dorian across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
More volunteers could be mobilized if the hurricane’s impact becomes clearer in the coming days.
