Clark County Public Health Department will continue to monitor toxins

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — Vancouver Lake has re-opened for swimming after being closed most of the summer.

A public health advisory over E. coli and blue-green algae, in place since June 12, has been downgraded to a cautionary advisory.

But the Clark County Public Health Department continues to warn people to not drink the water and to avoid swimming, boating or touching the water in areas with floating blue-green algae.

If ingested, the toxins in the algae can cause rashes, stomach issues, and dizziness. They can also be fatal to pets.

The Clark County Public Health Department will continue to monitor toxin levels.
