Metro avoids snow, flood watch canceled

Heavy rain causing river levels to rise

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- The metro area managed to avoid any snow accumulation Monday morning, but heavy rains throughout the weekend caused many area rivers to near flood stage.

Most rivers have started to recede, and a flood watch has been canceled along the I-5 corridor. The two rivers that remain under a flood warning are the Mary’s River near Philomath and the Pudding River near Aurora

Showers increase as we head into the morning commute Monday. With a heavy enough shower, any of us could see a quick shot of snow (trace-1/2”). Snow levels will be at 1,000’ to 1,500’ this afternoon, so most valley locations will just see rain showers this afternoon. Expect on and off rain with occasional sun breaks and high temperatures in the low-40s.

A Winter Weather Advisory continues above 1,000’ until 7 tonight. In the Cascades, an additional 3”-7” is possible today.
