We’re likely turning over our 70-degree leaf for the year

It's been a cooler-than-usual October

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – If you were still holding on to hope that we will have some warm fall weather, the time for that is cutting off very quickly.

We will have some mild or seasonable weather in the forecast, but that extra nice warm weather is likely in the cupboard until the Spring. If we look back to when we started keeping some of the stats at the Portland Airport (1941), we typically see the 70-degree temperatures sign off around mid-October. Now, we’ve seen 70-degree weather in late October and early November, but it doesn’t happen often.

Check out some of the recent years below. You can see that a few years we stopped seeing 70-degree weather earlier in the month, likely our case this year too, and other years around mid-October. If we go back to 2017, we still hit 71 degrees just a few days before Halloween. Last year, we wrapped up our 70-degree time on Oct. 19.

Here’s the real kicker, this has just been a cool October and we might even be lucky to have seen 70 degrees this year at all. If we look back to a comparison of 2018 and our current October month, we have been ripped off on 70-degree days. Check it out, last October we had a true fall month with at least 11 70-degree days, not the case this year. We hit 71 degrees on Oct. 6, and we may be fairly close with our temperature Thursday, but likely we will fall short.

In the meantime, we have some upper 60s in the forecast, it may be the best we can get.
